When Shane calls him one day saying that he wants to try something very different from his norm in the bedroom Hayden is a little confused. Apparently Shane and Rozanov aren't into this with each other and have reached an agreement. Shane can give it a try with someone else, no strings attached, and it’s Hayden he’d like to try with.
Hayden is single, exploring his bisexuality, and has also been wanting to try something different for a long time now. This set up feels like a win-win. Shane's his best friend, and sex won't affect their friendship. But Rozanov, who hates him, is ok with this? Is he really? Hayden's got questions, but if they're down he's down. He can do no stings attached, no problem.

Summary
The NHL changes the playoff format, hoping for more rivalries, more chaos, and better ratings. Instead, they accidentally create the worst possible scenario for Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov: a legitimate chance they could face each other in the Stanley Cup Final.
Naturally, Ilya responds by making a bet.
“If I win the cup this year,” he says, “then I get to kiss you in front of the entire arena.”
Shane fully expects the universe to stop them before it ever becomes a problem. The universe, unfortunately, thinks this is hilarious.

Ilya goes through with ending it.
Shane lets him.
What follows is eleven months of distance, denial, and a quiet kind of devastation neither of them knows how to name, let alone fix.
They learn how to live without each other.
(Or at least, how to pretend.)
And then, almost a year later, the infamous collision happens and Shane goes down cold.
And suddenly, neither of them can pretend it doesn’t matter.
