Nie Huaisang hadn’t been asleep, but if he’d been at least nearing it. The notification that lights up his phone and the two messages he finds waiting for him definitely erase any thoughts of calling it a night from his mind.
He doesn’t even give himself a moment to process those words in the message, but an innate fear sinks into him. He knew Jiang Cheng was dealing with the breakup, but damn, he’d made it seem like he was doing alright. Sure, he’d seemed reasonably upset considering his relationship of a few years had ended. It made sense that he wouldn’t be one hundred percent, but for every storm Huaisang had seen Jiang Cheng weather, he had never known the man to mention dying. It’s with this thought that he presses the call button underneath his friend’s contact.
