Summary
It doesn't matter how just your cause, morals don't win wars. What wins is strategy. Resources. Luck. Sometimes, the 'good guys' don't have any of those. Sometimes, the 'bad guys' do. This is a story of one of those times. Of a world where the moral side lost and the remnants of that side fight, not for victory, but for survival.
It's also a story about dragons, "Magical girls" (and boys), and true love. That right, it's time for Yu-Gi-Oh DM to get a futuristic sci-fi/fantasy dystopia AU!
Note: the rating is tentative because I don't think I'll be able to write an in-character long fic without some of these characters getting into more adult situations. The scenes in question will not be the dominating force of the fic, though. Most of the content is more in the T range. (Just wanna set expectations so no one is disappointed)

Fun fact: there’s some evidence that most of the “beer” drunk in ancient Egypt was basically non-alcoholic and only festival beer actually got you drunk. Based on this, we can surmise that an accurate Atemu might have absolutely no idea how to pace himself on the good stuff.
I think that you can guess where this is going.
Chapter 1 is 'T' Fluff, Chapter 2 and on is the other stuff and, no, there will be no questionable consent in this or anything else that I write. Ever. Not my thing. We stan healthy relationships and enthusiastic consent in this house!
This is technically a followup to Ma’at, but it functions as a standalone.

You know how YuGiOh is a lot of card games with a little magic thrown into the mix? What if it was a lot of magic with only the occasional card game? That’s the idea we’re playing with here. No filler arcs. Minimal duels. Lots of character development, magic, and boys being cute as they save the world and maybe fall in love along the way. Literally no scene will play out as it did in the original show and we’re going to be deviating from the initial plot almost right out of the gate. The rare bits of content that do match the original narrative will be gone over as quickly as possible.
And while we're at it, let's fix the Egyptology, too.
