Sometimes Damien wonders if it’s because his life doesn’t really require thinking that he misses things from time to time. He’s learned that he can think something all day long, repeat it over and over to himself in his head or outside of it until the words stop meaning anything, and it doesn’t do much. In the end it’s all about the heart. His ability really doesn’t care what he thinks, or wants to think.

Despite his vastly improved reputation, he strives only to care for his two adopted children. Conversely, Daniil Dankovsky has become stranded. Unable to return to the Capital which seeks to prosecute him, he remains in the Town on Gorkhon and tries to drink away his sorrows. Necessity brings the two men together, but will fate drive them into something deeper?

It’s not a lot, maybe a thimbleful gathered into one of those tiny bottles picked up on a whim in a new-age Wicca shop.
Jon couldn't just throw them away. He tells himself it's just until he finds the right final resting place, but so far, nothing seems to fit.
At first, Jon keeps the bottle in the front pocket of his work shirt. When it’s clear he has no intention of ever letting him go, he wraps a leather cord securely around it and wears it tucked under his shirt where it wouldn't be noticed.
Gerry rests against his heart. It brings him some comfort. He thinks they could have been friends, given better- or even just differently worse circumstances.
