Chris had been seeing Dr. Azeez for a few years now. The man was used to Chris coming in, dropping some awful lore on him, and dipping. Chris liked to think it made their relationship stronger.
“And why,” Dr. Azeez pushed his glasses up his nose. “ in the world would I do that?”
“Because I’m a really good patient.”
“No.”
“Because you believe in the power of love and friendship.”
“No.”
“Because my dad is gay and his best friend is half-ly and they're both in love with each other and I have a mom whose dead and I recently learned that blood doesn’t matter?”
Dr.Azeez jolted. “Oh my.”

Summary
He doesn’t know, okay? He doesn’t know why he ran to Maddie Buckley of all people when Buck is right there and he also has family, actual blood family, in Texas. All he knows is that his world is crashing down around him and he wanted to run away from his dad, from that house and the fucking ghost he’d brought to their doorstep. All he knows is that he wanted to run but he didn’t want to leave, didn’t want to leave school or his friends or Buck, but he couldn’t stay there.
All he knows is this: Buck talks about Maddie Buckley like she’s his personal superhero and right now Chris’ problems feel big enough that his own personal superhero won’t cut it. But maybe his superhero’s superhero will.
At the very least, she’ll probably offer him her couch.
