She tucked her portfolio under her arm and pulled open the front door of the design office, stepping smartly over the threshold and stopping short in the doorway, almost letting the door shut on her as she locked eyes with the man sitting behind the reception desk.
Betty Cooper, artist extraordinaire, painter of human canvases, knew beauty when she saw it. And beautiful didn’t even begin to cover it.

Black means he’ll be begging for mercy by the end of the night, and wearing the marks of the evening for at least a few days. Dark burgundy means the reverse: he’s in charge and Betty expects complete dominance from him.
Red sits somewhere between pink and burgundy, and it means that tonight is all for him. (Except that it’s really for her, and he’s just along for the ride.)

She's very observant, she notices these things, stacks them away, carefully adding and organizing information, fitting together tiny pieces of a cosmic puzzle. She's not obsessed with him. She just notices things.
(Well, she is a little obsessed with him which is the root of this whole problem.)
