“Egg?” Wemmbu whispered, afraid to ruin the fragile peace.

There was a building sensation in his chest that threatened to escape, the corners of his eyes burning. Yet something stirred in the midst of the shadows, unfettered and wild. Like the silent crepuscular sky before the scintillant break of dawn. The wordless calm hanging heavily before the impending storm. An instinct etched into the veins of a fighter who learnt how to sense danger to ensure survival.

    Something was off.

“I don’t think I’ll last another summer, bro,” Eggchan mumbled, suddenly so small and quiet. And if Wemmbu hadn’t been practicing his knife skills, he’d probably have already cut his fingers off. Wemmbu forced the word out of his throat. It should be easy enough, right?

Or, a Taxduo hospital fic that's been in my mind for far too long.
