Eddie taps his fingers on the counter, “Don’t you have a boyfriend?”
Chrissy blinks, “It’s just a silly tradition. If you don’t want to kiss me just say so.” Was that hurt in her voice?
He waves a hand and stutters, “It’s not that! I’d love to kiss you, well, I mean who wouldn’t?” A laugh, “It’s just that I might get beat up for it.”
He watches as Chrissy’s shoulders drop and maybe he needs to stop being so Goddamn noble and just kiss the girl. Eddie leans forward so he can touch her wrist. Chrissy looks up at him and there’s a spark in her blue eyes that remind him of when he has to jump start his van.

Summary
The first thing that came to mind as Chrissy’s body slowly lifted from the ground was to sing. He didn’t know where the urge came from but a broken voice came from his lips. It was a song his mother had sung to him. He wasn’t really sure what it was called, only that it meant something.
Maybe this will be the last thing she hears, he thought. It would be nice to listen to someone try and choke out a song as you die, it showed that you cared. And by whatever forces there were, Eddie cared. He was not watching someone die.
Please don’t let her die.
