The thing is, they spend so much time dancing attendance on Philippa that half of Bolingbroke calls them Alec-and-Alonzo.
The thing is, even when Philippa is in Kingsport, Alonzo can't look at Alec without feeling that hot flare of lingering antagonism, deep inside.

Edmund plans to make Fanny an offer of marriage, and he asks his brother Tom to listen to his proposal to ease his nerves. Only, Tom is something of a method actor (as well as an objectively bad one) and his attempt at being a stand in for Fanny Price seems to make it even worse.
