Daryl had been best friends with Rick since the beginning, and when university started and they were sharing dorms? Those feelings grew even stronger...to the point he can't keep this secret bottled up forever. Daryl knew he had to confess at some point, but how could he do that if someone might already have stolen Rick's heart?
He had always knew he was different from other people. He had different preferences, and he still hadn't admit this to anyone, even if he didn't want to admit this himself, for once...he was actually afraid of what people may think of him. Especially Rick. There is no doubt that maybe he won't get the ending he dreamt to have, not with obstacles constantly coming to his ways.
