1st: A monastery on the border between two warring countries does not go untouched by the war. Aramis struggles with his instincts. 2nd: Early in the war, Porthos and d'Artagnan struggle to find their sense of balance. 3rd & 4th: Missing-scene conversations between Athos and Aramis in the monastery. 5th: In the basement of the monastery, Porthos listens in to some storytelling, and grapples with context.
6th: Violence is looming. Aramis grapples with his place in what is coming.

Inspired by the idea I’ve seen pop up in several places that Marsac would come back as a zombie, as evidenced by Aramis leaving the sword stuck in his grave for him. Despite the silly-sounding premise, this is not a crack fic - quite the contrary, actually.
