When Nancy’s bus left the station she thought that her life was over. After a summer of heartbreak (for both of them, although Nancy more considering her multi year relationship came to an end), they’d been spending time together. At first it was because Robin felt like Nancy needed her but that quickly turned into just being friends. Their friendship had become such an integral part of her day, as much as her friendship with Steve. Phone conversations ensue.

“Just sleep? Yeah? We’re just going to sleep?” asks Nancy when she comes over, already in her pajamas.
“Nothing more, I promise,” says Robin, and she means it.

Summary
Robin wiped one last tear from Nancy’s cheek, pulled her up, and helped Nancy get out the house. The fresh air of the real world gave Nancy a boost of energy, and it felt like the spores in her throat and lungs were starting to clear, and although she wanted to stay in Robin’s grasp the rest of the way, she pulled herself away from the girl next to her and began to walk without help. Robin still had her hand on Nancy’s shoulder, and as they trailed behind Lucas and Erica, and Steve and Max, Robin’s hand slowly ran down Nancy’s arm and into Nancy’s hand. And both of them breathed a sigh of relief.

At least, she wanted to think that. She had a firm grip of who she was, but with each day that went by her grip was getting weaker. She felt like she was losing herself.
She never questioned her fundamental beliefs, that was, until she met Robin Buckley.
