“Oof, I don’t feel good” Ilya looks up to see Shane leaning forward, one hand braced against the counter and face set in a grimace.
“You are strong boy, you will survive.” He responds, but he’s still unable to keep the edge of concern out of his voice. Shane hadn’t eaten anything today but one of the protein bars that the new nutrition coach was pushing on the team.
Shane looks up at him and smiles halfway, face pale and drawn, and Ilya lets instinct take over when he walks over and rubs Shane’s back in the way Shane likes. He immediately relaxes between Ilya’s hands, tense muscles melting.
“Think I’m just gonna go to bed early.” Shane mumbles, eyes closed.

Shane approaches the door where Ilya is playing with Anya on the bed. He doesn’t say anything, he just stands in the doorway, phone hanging limply in his hand and the colour has drained from his face completely.
“What is wrong, Shane?”
Shane looks down at his phone. His eyebrows have fallen in confusion, but it’s the look in his eyes that makes Ilya’s stomach drop.
