“I’m so sorry, sir!” a voice said. “Are you okay?” A hand was shoved in Stephen’s line of vision and he begrudgingly took it and hauled himself up, ready to give the stranger a piece of his mind. The words died in his mouth when he locked eyes with the kid. He was a scrawny thing, with a flannel that was a bit too big and eyes that were a bit too sad, and a bruise on his cheekbone that wasn’t quite faded.
“It’s fine,” Stephen found himself saying instead as he dusted himself off. “Just watch where you’re going.” The younger man nodded. He almost looked like he was about to be sick.

The young man slowly removed his hood, keeping one hand up to show he wasn’t about to grab a weapon - there was no scabbard to be seen - and the patrol leader’s eyes widened at his appearance. He was younger than he looked, barely an adult with shaggy brown hair, short but just starting to curl horns close to long ram ears. Encircling his hair, however, was what caused the leader his surprise. A thin circlet of silver, emeralds and blue diamonds embedded at the front, resting against the young man’s forehead.
“I am Prince Tubbo of the Essempi, and I am asking for sanctuary for the last of my people. The Essempi has been invaded by the Badlands, and we are all that managed to get out.”
