“Did you kill someone else?” It was a half-assed attempt at a joke, although a very bad and insensitive one.
“No. But…” She wrung her hands. “I’m not sorry. Even now. I’d do it again. I feel like a monster.”
Damian pulled her into his arms, holding her gently, “he was the monster,” he whispered softly, “not you.”
Those words were enough to make her bury her head in his chest and sob. “Don’t lie Damian,” she hiccuped, “I am one.”
He said nothing, only cradled her in his arms, holding her as waves of devastation struck her again and again. An ocean of guilt, or lack of thereof.
“Is it worth it?”
Anya shivered, “I don’t know.”
