Summary
Frank Langdon is worried about Mel. She has a lot on her shoulders and doesn't know how to ask for help. He decides that he can help her by giving her moments outside of work where she's just having fun, not taking care of anyone. Mel sees this as a bid for friendship and happily accepts.
Eventually real friendship blossoms between them, then something more.
__
Langdon is separated from the very beginning, just wearing his wedding ring at first to avoid questions or pity at work. He is not immediately looking for love or to get over Abby; it sneaks up on him.

Summary
Mel King was an accomplished liar. Well, accomplished at harmless white lies that were usually for the benefit of another person and to her own detriment. No, Dana, it doesn’t bother me that that patient called me frigid. No, Becca, I don’t mind if we watch Elf again. No, Dr Robby, I can totally stay late after my shift is over because the Pitt is slammed as usual. If it didn’t harm anyone except herself, she lied effortlessly and constantly.
Except him. She couldn’t lie to him.

Summary
Frank Langdon should not be touching Mel King like this.
Jesus, this was a bad idea.
But it was just a strap. And then her clavicles. And then his fingertips and nails along her arms, lightly grazing the raised goosebumps forming on her skin. Her body’s reaction to his touch was like a drug. He hoped she couldn’t feel his body’s response. Fuck, he wanted to touch her more.
No. That was it. It had to be. He was not going to ruin this moment. She would never be able to see him the same if he did that, and he needed Mel King not to hate him like grass needed the sun. She was his last refuge in a world that would not forgive him.
