Simon sometimes thinks he actually died down there, crushed by the pressure of the dense blood and eaten by whatever it is lurking in the depth of the crimson ocean. And not just that. It seemed that apparently, whatever God that had forsaken him when he was just born into the desperation, has decided that Simon’s sins were all forgiven, let go for that suffering he endured in the submarine. It sent him to the version of heaven that Simon couldn't even dream of.

Summary
One strong arm wrapped around Grace and pulled him into a warm, solid surface as he began to sob. He’d been afraid before, but nothing had scared him as much as realizing he had no choice in the matter.
“You’re not a coward. Fear doesn’t make you a coward; it makes you human.”
“Grace not coward. Grace brave. Grace Rocky heroes, statement. And Simon.”
That elicited a laugh from Grace, which helped him to catch his breath and calm back down.
“You’re not a coward,” Simon repeated, releasing his grip on Grace before he sat back to see him better. “If that makes you a coward, then that means I’m a coward, and I may be a lot of things, but I know I’m not a coward.”
OR
Simon has dealt with nightmares his whole life, even before his exploration of AT-5. He knew Grace got them sometimes, too, but he'd never seen him have one before. That is, until he does.

Summary
Grace was a chemistry guy: his world was provable and predictable. Every quantum physicist that Grace knew had a wild-eyed, pulling-my-hair-out kind of energy, so it felt like a very bad sign that the most grounded explanation for Simon's presence here might be "wormholes."
Grace knocked his glasses off his nose to scrub his eyes, leaving them dangling from one ear. Talking to Simon had given him more questions than answers. What else could he observe about the man? What were the objective facts?

He has no use for The Grove, not when he has his orchard and his garden and a home he can call his own, filled with harmonious choruses of Brothers and Sisters and Family that see him as their own.
He has no need for something better when he has the single greatest thing he has ever managed to hold onto holding him like he is the one thing he can’t live without.
