It was that when he presented he found out who his fated mate was.
He's heard the romantic and tear jerking stories of omegas and alphas meeting their fated mates, but he didn't have that.He hated it because he knew his fated mate wanted someone else. (or did he?)

From his wind-tousled hair to his blown pupils that are framed on top by eyebrows that are pulled so high that they nearly disappear into his ungelled hair, Tendou looks like everything Ushijima would want in his life.
Tendou is wildly, painfully beautiful, and he encompasses Ushijima’s hidden desires so accurately that he has to suck in a large breath to stop himself from blurting out the first thing that’s on his mind.
I love him.
Or, it takes Tendou's declaration that he has someone he likes to stir up unknown feelings in Ushijima that he never knew he had. But he can deal with a bit of confusion about his own emotions, right?

Alternatively; Akaashi unconsciously falls in love with his best friend as they grow up, and realizes years later, that to be known is to be loved.

Summary
Bottling your feelings is not good, Satori has always known this, but he also knows you can't spill your feelings everywhere and you need the right time. He doesn't find a right time, he's too scared.
Which is probably how he ends up sneaking out of training camp with two rival players and then breaking down. But he makes two good friends in the process. Let's just hope that team rivalry, and jealousy(?) don't get in the way.

Tendou professes as he squeezes Ushijima’s shoulders and locks eyes with Oikawa again.
Tendou loves joking around with his opponents before a volleyball match but-
“Tendou, I am so sorry.”
Ushijima simply says, and he sounds like he really means it.
Tendou is so confused. Why was Ushijima apologizing to him?
“I had no idea that the nature of our relationship was that of boyfriends and not best friends. I shall do my best to make the necessary adjustments to my behavior.”
Wait. Did Ushijima not know he was joking to Oikawa about them being boyfriends?

TLDR: Tendou makes a joke to Oikawa that he and Ushijima are dating and Ushijima actually thinks he is serious about it. This makes Ushijima realise a thing or two about their relationship and the adjustments he might want to make to said relationship.
