9. Crazy Little Thing Called Love
Crowley had been harboring a word deep in his chest since Eden, biting it back every time it rose unbidden to his tongue. He had been finding other ways to say it for millennia, but had never felt free to name it out loud. He was sure sometimes that Aziraphale felt the same. He thought he had seen the word on the angel’s lips more than once, had seen him biting it back just as Crowley did. Surely they could say it now.
“Angel,” Crowley started, seized by a mad desire to speak the words out loud.
“Yes, dear?”
Crowley choked up. Part of him hadn’t been expecting to be acknowledged. “Oh, uh, I was just wondering…”
He was suddenly horrified by what he had been wondering. What had he been thinking? He couldn’t come out and just say something like that after six thousand years of not saying it! Was he crazy? Aziraphale might discorporate from shock, or worse, reject him. He had thought he knew Aziraphale’s mind, but suddenly his head was too filled with echoes of Friends? Were not friends!, I don’t even like you!, There is no ‘our side’, It’s over!, and You go too fast for me, Crowley, to be entirely sure.

The excitement of spending a day traveling with Crowley had turned to deep embarrassment. Rather than a flight followed by a late dinner somewhere and then a night apart, Aziraphale was cold, wet, hungry, and injured, in the wrong city, and facing a night sharing a room with his secret crush in which there was only one bed. And— Aziraphale looked down at what he was holding. Flannel pajamas, tartan ones. He was going to have to go back out there and face the ever-elegant Crowley in his night clothes.

I'd never written a "There was only one bed" fic and I had so much fun with this. I hope you all enjoy it!

In the time between the great Fall and Eden, the Great War between Heaven and Hell rages on, although Hell has an advantage that makes their victory inevitable. An angel and a demon are brought together by fate: prisoner and unwilling captor.Crawly re-learns what love is, and realizes that in order to protect Aziraphale he will need to betray Hell itself, even if it means losing status, titles, or possibly even his own life. Despite Aziraphale not wanting him to, Crawly devises a plan that will not only free Aziraphale, but forever change the direction of the Great War.
Crawly finds that sometimes love means turning your back on both sides, and forming your own.
Sometimes love means letting go.
