Yaz is left in Sheffield, not far from where the Doctor is living a normal human life, with few details on what happened, only a letter with instructions. It happened after a funny incident, which couldn't even be called hair-raising.
The Doctor caught a glimpse of someone, turned, and ran. So they followed. And when they got back to the TARDIS, she was acting strangely, demanding to know if they'd been seen. Piloting back to Sheffield, though none of them asked to return. And then she neatly kicked them out and vanished, leaving Yaz, Graham, and Ryan to return to their incredibly dull lives, wondering what on earth they'd done wrong.
Until, a month later, the TARDIS came back.
Without the Doctor.
