“You’re ill,” Mrs. Ghafa says, in a tone that does not suggest a willingness to compromise. “And you’re hurt. I admit we do not know all the customs of Kerch, but surely one does not leave an injured child lying on the kitchen floor.”
“I am not a—,” Kaz snaps, ire up. “Go inflict your help on someone who wants it.” He pushes himself into a sitting position with his good hand, fully intending to stand and storm dramatically out the door.
Strangely he finds himself on his back in the bed a second later, a cool cloth draped across his forehead.
“You fainted again. Don’t sit up so quickly,” Mrs. Ghafa scolds.
