This story was written for the OFMD Gotcha for Gaza project, and my prompt came from @BookwormCosplays on Tumblr. The prompt was:
“Blackbeard is still earning forgiveness and it’s Izzy’s turn. Ed’s job is to be first mate for the day. Maybe Izzy acts as captain?”
This was genuinely so much fun to write, and I’m thinking about maybe writing a sequel, all being well? Not sure I’ll get much beyond an outline for a month or two, with three cosplays still to finish, but post-conventions this is definitely something I’d like to come back to.
The title is taken from The Longest John’s song Ashes, which is a great song that I’ve played on repeat on several occasions. Each verse ends with the line “I'll tend to the flame, you can worship the ashes.”
Rated teen for language. Couldn’t really write it without the language. It’s Izzy.
