He follows them, because the horses did not choose this and he can make a small difference, and that is the only reason he needs.
The Ligue de Cambrai's campaign against Venice will end at Agnadello on 14 May 1509. Henry knows what artillery does to horses. He goes anyway.
The story would be better if you read the first parts of the "Immortal Henry" series.
