Todas as manhãs, ao entrar em sala de aula, o olhar de Neil vai rapidamente até a cadeira ocupada por Aaron Minyard. O loiro, que se transferiu no início do ano letivo, raramente conversa com alguém da turma, e sempre que fala algo, é sobre as aulas. Ninguém sabe nada sobre ele e claramente ninguém nem quer saber. Em algumas manhãs, quando Neil o observa, ele parece estar cansado, preocupado, e justamente nessas manhãs é que ele sempre pareceu mais instigante, mais interessante.
Como alguém poderia parecer, de um dia para o outro, ser outra pessoa?
Neil tem uma teoria, mas ele se recusa a dividir com mais alguém por ela parecer extremamente absurda: Aaron não é uma única pessoa. Sendo mais específico, para Neil, há alguém exatamente idêntico a ele que assume seu lugar de tempos em tempos. Ninguém nunca suspeitou de nada, mas nem todos reparam tanto no garoto loiro quanto Neil faz. -

Every morning, upon entering the classroom, Neil's gaze quickly moves to the chair occupied by Aaron Minyard. The blond, who transferred at the beginning of the school year, rarely talks to anyone in the class, and whenever he says something, it's about classes. Nobody knows anything about him and clearly nobody wants to know. Some mornings, when Neil watches him, he seems to be tired, worried, and it is precisely on those mornings that he always seemed more thought-provoking, more interesting.
How could someone seem, overnight, to be someone else?
Neil has a theory, but he refuses to share it with anyone else because it seems extremely absurd: Aaron is not a single person. To be more specific, for Neil, there is someone exactly identical to him who takes his place from time to time. No one has ever suspected anything, but not everyone notices the blond boy as much as Neil does. -

“Why do you hate me so much?”
Aaron stops for a minute second before tossing a flyer into the bin he’d set down on a nearby chair. When he does turn to look at Kevin he’s a little throw off, because he looks tired, like he’s giving up a fight he’d been trying to hold onto for years. The look etched on his face is not something that Aaron has become familiar with concerning Kevin Day; not that he’s familiar with anything concerning him. But this, this is something different, it pulls and tugs and twists at something deep with him.
And not for the first time today, does he think about why he hates Kevin so much.
