Nam-gyu thought silence was better. Cleaner. Safer.
But when Min-su sends him a message out of nowhere, it scrapes at the one thing Nam-gyu can’t bury: the need to matter to someone.
He told himself he didn’t care. He was wrong.or
“I-I know…” Min-su mumbled. “I just wanna make sure you’re okay..”
Nam-gyu’s mouth snapped shut. “…Heh? You’re so fucking stupid…” he mumbled. “I’m not okay. I’m never gonna be okay. That’s just the truth.”
“No.” Min-su said, firmly this time. “That’s not the truth. I don’t believe that.. I want to be there for you– even after everything... I still want to help. Or at least just keep in contact.”
Nam-gyu stared at him like he was out of his mind. Like Min-su was offering him something he didn’t know how to accept.
And then Min-su added, quieter this time. “...I know we don’t particularly get along. But I wanna be here for you. I-I know you’re struggling… And I wanna help you.”
He shifted in his seat. “I don’t wanna… Give up on you. I… I won’t give up on you.” -

Su-bong stirred awake to the sound of something hitting his face. Confetti. “What the actual–?”
“Wake up, wizard!!” Nam-gyu shouted, tossing another handful. “Today’s full of adventure!”
Su-bong groaned and yanked the pillow over his head. “It’s been one day. One.”
“That’s how all great quests start!” Nam-gyu declared. “Day one is the call to adventure!”
“Pretty sure the wizard murders his annoying sidekick by Chapter Three.”
Nam-gyu gasped. “You wouldn’t!”
“Watch me.”
But he didn’t mean it. Not really.
Because waking up to something different, even if it was confetti and delusion, felt a little less like punishment.
