It’s a genuine accident when their lips meet. Tom was aware that Charlie was somewhere close behind him, swaying and looming. (It’s impossible not to loom with his height.) He was close enough to feel the heat radiating off of Charlie’s skin, to make him more aware of his own body, to make sure they didn’t crash into each other.
Up until this point, Charlie had only kissed him on the cheek once, and it took a while before he was even initiating that. So this is new, uncertain territory.
