I’m the last person Jisung should want to see, Hyunjin almost says, because there’s a reason the only people back in Seoul still making music together is 3RACHA and not Stray Kids. There’s a reason there hasn’t been a Stray Kids in nearly ten years, the same way there’s a reason that a decade-long relationship that was supposed to last for the rest of his life has slipped from his grasp and the ring on his finger no longer fits. Summary
“My dad died,” Minho says. No sugarcoating it. “An hour ago. He died.”
Silence.
If Minho didn’t know any better, he’d think Jisung hung up on him. But he does know better. So he tugs on the phone cord, stretching it out until he reaches the window in his bedroom. He pulls up the blinds. As expected, Jisung is already there.
“Are you okay?” Jisung asks, his lips moving before the words make it through Minho’s receiver. He always makes it to his window first, because he has one of those new cordless phones. Untethered.
If Jisung didn’t know any better, he’d offer his condolences, probably say something appropriate like I’m sorry for your loss. But he does know better. So he only asks once, just to be sure, and then he won’t ask again. He waits for Minho to answer. As expected, he doesn’t.
“Well, hey,” Jisung says, “on the bright side, at least you finally get the Mustang.”
(or: minho runs from the things that scare him, and he thinks jisung might scare him the most)

“Hi,” he said, voice relieved and quiet, “how’re you feeling?”
Han wanted to answer - he found himself wanting to respond positively if only to ease the troubled look in the man’s kind eyes - but the only thing that left his throat was a squeak.
The man scoffed good naturedly, and ducked his head. He pressed his forehead to their joined hands for a moment, as if gathering strength, before he righted himself again.
When he met Han’s eyes, he was crying.
“I’m so glad you’re back,” he whispered as he crumbled, “and I’m sorry it took us so long to get you out.”
Life outside the Shining City is desolate and primitive - but it's free.
When Jisung is taken back to be re-indoctrinated, he has to find within himself the strength to survive and to remember his brothers who are waiting for him on the outside.
