Peter makes it a point to know who every student at Beacon Hills High School is. Even if they're completely unremarkable, he likes to know the basics about them. He's a senior, still a child according to his sister, but he's tapped to be her right hand, her enforcer. It's his job to know about everyone that could be a potential threat. Derek's mother, explains to them, "I am so sorry you two but this is an emergency. There is no time for good-byes."
Derek's uncle Peter was separated from Derek when he was taken with Laura and her fiance' Liam.
All three stayed behind to manage the family businesses, the Hale territory as well as the Wolf Preserve.
