The contrast between the two Alfreds was stark. In the dark universe, Alfred's love had become a cage, bond to trap Bruce in a web of obsession and control, after his AUs death. He wouldn't make the same mistake again. None of them would as soon as Bruce was back in their grasp

Bruce's breath catches as reality sinks in. Someone not only managed to take him down, but they'd also been in his home. With his kids. Fear shoots through him - how long had he been out? What if they'd come downstairs? His protective father instincts flare up despite his pain.
Bruce carefully shifts his position, trying to sit up without waking the kids. He needs to assess the situation, find out what happened and who did this. His hand reaches out, fingers brushing against something cold and metallic on the floor. "What the..." He freezes as he sees it - a syringe.
