In a world where the Ascended begin patronages with mortals, Ezreal has always been living under the pressure of being worthy of the blessing bestowed upon him. However Ne'Zuk, the Ixtali ascended, his patron, didn't turn out to be what he had expected.
After years living in privilege, a slip of the tongue coming from Ne'Zuk has Ezreal insisting on going to watch a fight at the Collosseum, something completely forbidden to heirs. What Ezreal doesn't know, is that meeting a certain gladiator will completely change his perspective of the world.

It started in preschool, with Ezreal crying when he was dropped off and Kayn setting ants on fire in the playground. And when Kayn moved away, they assumed that was the end.

Summary
The tears of Merfolk are said to heal all wounds.
Sea captain Sett seeks to obtain a vial for his bedridden Ma but all pirates know: Merfolk and Sirens spell danger. Centuries of Noxian mer-trafficking and poaching for their scales and tears have earned the general human species a bad reputation. It is no wonder that all Merfolk are resentful. Not to mention, endangered. Where the heck is he to find one—and one willing to spare him their tears?
He goes to Kayn. A Noxian who now lives in Ionia because hell, was he done with all that fucked-up shit they’d made him do as a child. He’s the only marauder (ex-marauder, really) Sett knows who’s actually encountered Mer and lived to tell the tale. Except it’s not the happiest tale. And he hasn’t seen another pearlescent gold fin like the one he remembers in ten whole years.
Aphelios is a deadly siren without a weapon above water—he cannot sing. Ezreal is his stupid pretty merman friend who clings on to every last hope that maybe, just, maybe: not all humans are bad.

Aphelios always wanted a bit of change in his life. But he kind of expected that change to come in the form of suddenly loving engineering, or may his parents accepting his dream to become a painter.
He didn’t expect the change to come in the form of a strange, Vastayan man going by the name Sett. Especially when Sett claimed to be from another universe and was now sleeping on Aphelios’ couch.
Sure, it wasn’t the change he expected, but Aphelios didn’t quite mind it. And maybe, with Sett’s arrival, other changes would come.
