“Joel?” She directed the question to the officer, but both responded in unison instead.
“Yeah?”
“Sorry, can you be more specific?” The officer said quickly after.
“Well— I didn’t… I didn’t know there was more than one.” Gem replied, shifting awkwardly. “Um.. I'm not hallucinating, right?”
“Course not,” the bartender replied, “you’d better hope not. Ya’ aren’t even intoxicated yet, I’d figure.” He had a gruff, stiff accent that Gem couldn’t place. Irish, maybe? Scottish? Joel hadn’t lived in any of those places, she’d thought.
“Then.. what are you?” Gem asked in confusion, ignoring his comment. “How many of you are there?”
“We ain’t objects.” He muttered gruffly. “And us clones? Maybe forty— wait, no, they just brought in a new batch. Fifty?”
“Seriously?”

Whatever he was seeing, it didn’t make sense
Standing in front of him, an exact reflection of shock on his own face.
Grian physically stumbled back, hurriedly pulling out his sword.
“Who.. what-“ his words stumbled over each other, trying to make sense of it all. The man in front of him looks almost exactly like Grian- save for his tri-colored wings and different clothes. It was uncanny.
“Put that away!” The man shouted, putting his hands up in defense. “What’s the matter with you?”

Rift reopens on Hermitcraft, Grian goes in to find a few familiar faces, even if they don’t recognize him at all.

“What’s wrong?” Pearl asked quickly, he could hear her shuffling things, standing up and putting stuff away. “Do you need help? Are you okay?” A pause. “It’s one a.m, G.”
“They said the same.. same thing.”
“What?”
“It was the same line they told Tim.” The tears were rolling now. “They told me to live this day to the fullest.”
Silence.
It stretched out thin, for moments longer than he would’ve liked.
“Grian, who called you?”
They both knew she didn’t need an answer.

The mermaid landed in the wooden boat with a thud, tangled up in a fishing net. She looked at him with pleading eyes.
He wanted to feel bad, truly. To release this poor creature that he never even knew existed.
He did feel guilty.
He stood there, dumbfounded, contemplating what to do next. His mind spun in a thousand different directions.
But Grian was never an empath, it seemed. Business was business. And a catch like this was worth big money.

Summary
The alarm sounded.
Metal clanging sounds of the shutters closing over the windows and doors echoed through the hallways, now illuminated by a flashing red colour and with tree branches lining its walls. The blaring sound, painful lighting, and the sensation of his own heartbeat building pressure in his chest didn't help Etho in the slightest.
But he couldn't let that slow him down. He couldn't look back, he couldn't stop to think about the other two for even a moment. He had to keep running.
…And yet it wouldn't leave his mind. The events from just a few hours ago were imprinted into the back of his eyelids with every blink he took.
"I'm sorry, Bdubs!"

Etho was a scientist leading a large team on a project surrounding research on the Creaking. With Ren as his lab assistant and Bdubs offering to be a test subject, everything seemed to be following standard procedure. However, things go horribly wrong and now the world is filled with horrible Creaking monsters who can spread to humans by attacking them. Etho manages to escape the lab and find a group of survivors, but hope seems dim for any chance to revert this apocalypse.

And wasn’t that the crux of everything? Zach missed them like an ache in his chest. The family that should’ve been, that they’d never get back. These people wore the faces of his friends, laughed their same laughs, made their same quips. They called themselves his family, and they didn’t even know him like they did. All because of him.
Even if any of this was real, he had no one to direct his anger towards. The Apollo of this universe was blameless, his only sin being wearing the screen of a murderer and a tyrant that he didn’t even know.

The man hovering over him leaned back, releasing Grian completely. Cold night air rushed in to fill the void.
“I guess it’s out in the open now,” the stranger hummed. “Shame. I wanted to avoid this.”
With the additional glow occupying the space between them, Grian was finally able to catch features that were lost in the prior darkness. His curiosity outweighed all else, and he drank them in greedily. As soon as he saw who sat across from him, alarms blared in his mind.
This man wasn’t a civilian, wasn’t even a hero.
“Hello, Doctor,” the villain mused. “You were quite the help today.”
