“It’s almost perfect,” Will narrows his eyes and leans forward, bringing up his hands to move Mike’s hair out of his eye, fixing up his vision and allowing him to see clearly Will’s focused expression and the lack of distance between their faces.
Maybe it’s the fact that Will somehow seems to radiate sunshine or that Mike’s time is approaching fast, but he’s seeing light. A whole lot.
“There. You look… beautiful.” Will smirks as he pokes fun at Mike’s earlier comment, and Mike needs to think of some cool last words, quick.
Mike Wheeler is dying. Well, maybe he isn’t, but that’s a lot easier to accept than the idea that he might be falling in love with his best friend.

Lucas confirms he isn’t just calling to chat as soon as they finish their hellos, asking, “So, listen, I know we don’t really talk about Mike, but have you read his book?”
If the phone call is a surprise then the topic is a full shock, “Uhm, no?”
“Oh,” there’s an awkward pause, and Will is just thinking 'what the fuck man', before Lucas goes on, “He said he sent you a copy.”
Will wants to snap something about 'Why are you talking about me with Mike in the first place?' Instead he runs a hand through his hair and forces himself to respond neutrally, “Yeah, I started it, but I never got around to finishing it.” That’s Will’s polite way of saying he purposefully shoved it into a dark corner of his closet so he could just forget about the damn thing.
The line is quiet for another awkward stretch before Lucas says, “Do you know what it’s about?”

Everyone was respecting Will's unspoken "I don't want to talk to or about Mike Wheeler" policy before Mike got his first publishing deal.

Will froze on the spot, his eyes widening. Slowly, he let his eyes trail towards the door, that swung half-open. And that's when he saw.
Mike and Tyler in Tyler's room, fucking making out against a wall. Mike's arms were loosely draped around his shoulders, Tyler's hands were firmly gripping his waist as he pressed him into the wall. They were grinding down against each other, little, muffled moans escaping both of them.
What the actual fuck?
Or: Mike and Will have had an intense argument and their friendship is still tense. But now, they’re spending a week at a cabin in the woods with their friends. And the presence of one of Lucas’ new friends, Tyler, just makes everything more complicated.
