The serene woman before him turned on the wall mounted lamp beside the mirror, illuminating the reflection of the two of them in a golden slosh of light. It was reminiscent of a painting he’d probably seen before; an estranged son taking a seat before a mother to face the reflection of what he’d become.
It was the two of them, their images painted in the mirror in golden and deep blue hues of the shadowed bathroom. Her trembling, delicate fingers wrapped around the handle of the scissors. He had seen her tremor in his own fingers before, the similarity between the two figures leaving a sickening puddle of feelings in his gut.Someone has to leave first. This is a very old story.
