After the harrowing events of the last few months, an uneasy peace has settled over Bohemia; Sigismund of Hungary has retreated back to the east, and the League of Lords obey the terms of truce, for now. With the war on hold, the Devil's Pack is recalled to Rattay for a celebration — a union between the Lords of Poděbrad and Lipá, rendered through the marriage of one Hans Capon to Jitka of Kunštát. And while Henry and Hans struggle with the aftermath of Suchdol, war waits for no one.
King Wenceslas lingers in captivity. Sigismund still prowls the borders. And Sir Radzig Kobyla, Royal Hetman of the King, has another job for his son, one that will take Henry further from Rattay — and Hans — than he has ever been.
