Though he and Ted are friendly, sometimes even going to each other’s places to watch a game, they’re by no means confidants. And 'You got a minute?' sounds like it precedes something more serious than 'Come over for a beer and some hockey.'
Or, Ted learns about Alexis and David's less than stellar childhood and turns to Patrick. Naturally.
