Summary
Cheyenne throws her legs into his lap, stiff until he digs into the arches. She goes lax, petting Gabin's head more than accomplishing any actual braiding. Her socks are soft beneath his thumbs, new wool, stars circling the cuffs. Gabin slumps down alongside her.
“Do you love her more than me?” he asks, in a voice he clearly thinks is a whisper, aghast and grinning. He'd fiddled with the pattern for weeks until he had the colorwork right. Toting yarn between rehearsals, sweeping it hastily into Tobias’ desk drawer, frogging hours of tiny, tidy stitches. Tobias swallows around the lump in his throat.
“I'll do yours next.”
“What am I saying? Of course you do not.” Gabin nudges her ribs, content to wriggle his toes beneath Tobias’ thigh.

Summary
If he started his morning at 6, what time was that there? That was noon there, okay so he could call or text first, maybe he should text first just to make sure rehearsal didn’t run over, and then if he got a text back, he could wait a respectable two minutes before hitting the call button. He didn’t want to seem too eager. When he got home late from his own rehearsals, he needed to remember that it was too late to call—he kept forgetting that, so used to talking before falling asleep—and sometimes too late to text.
OR Tobias is GLUED to his phone after returning to New York until he isn't. When he forgets to check his phone, has a little spiral about it, but Gabin helps him breathe.

Summary
They parted ways in the morning after Gabin came back with breakfast from the cafe down the street and there was more kissing in the kitchen, on the couch, at the front door, and then nothing. Space. No promises, no pushing, just a kiss and they parted. And here they were. Outside Geneviève’s office. And Gabin was winking at him.
“Are you winking at me now?” Deadpanned tone. Biting back a smile. Damnit.

Gabin is honestly shocked. “You text Cheyenne Toussaint?”
Tobias scooches under Gabin’s arm. “Sort of.”
Gabin doesn’t question how you can ‘sort of’ text someone. He thinks he understands Tobias well enough, but he doesn’t understand Cheyenne and knows he won’t understand any sort of communication between the two of them.
“Can’t believe my enemy and my boyfriend are friends,” Gabin mumbles.

Summary
And Eddie asked him. Asked him if he was sure, assured him that he wasn’t imposing or putting him out or whatever other frankly incredible things Buck’s brain might’ve been telling him. He double triple quadruple checked if Buck was sure he wanted to move into a glorified sardine can, to which Buck responded, beggars can’t be choosers, I’m not exactly swimming in it, Eddie! And yeah. Fair. But there was just. There was no reason for him to leave so quickly, that’s all.
Eddie hates this apartment.
Buck moves out. Eddie tries to cope.

Summary
Having his first kiss with a man was not on Eddie's 2024 bingo card. But then again, neither was having his parents steal his son, or having to deal with the startling revelation that he was in love with his best friend (who for some reason can't stop getting hurt). If he expected a quiet time in El Paso he really should have known better. He thinks Frank would be a little proud of him though, he's never been so in touch with his feelings.

Summary
“Need some help there?”
The voice cuts through the quiet, unexpectedly startling Eddie despite being low and steady. Eddie’s chest tightens. He shifts Chris instinctively further from the voice, his arms wrapping tighter around his son as he twists. A man stands at the edge of the porch light - a large figure, broad-shouldered, tall and intimidating, with his face almost hidden in the shadows. Eddie’s pulse quickens, protective instincts rising to the surface. His eyes dart over the man’s frame - assessing, calculating.
The man approaches slowly, palms visible, his footsteps soft against the cracked pavement. “I’m Buck. Live next door. You good?” His tone is casual, but there’s an undercurrent of genuine concern.

Summary
“Buck Buckley?” he asked, his accent deeper now, rougher around the edges like morning gravel. “What are you doin’ all the way out here?”
Buck had to mentally slap himself. Snap out of it, Buckley.
Words. Use your words.
“I was, uh… out for a run. Sir.”
The ‘sir’ slipped out automatically. Was he still a ‘sir’ without the uniform?
The man didn’t correct him, just nodded toward the bridge. “Don’t cross that thing. It’s more for show than use. Shouldn’t really even be standin’ on it. You got that?”or
Buck is in trouble again, only this time Bobby seems to think that a little vacation from home would do him good.
Bobby sends him to a kind of summer camp for adults, a camp whose existence Buck would have signed a petition against long ago if he had known about it.
Nevertheless, he has no choice but to go to Texas for three months. But when he meets his very attractive instructors on the first day, he wonders whether the whole time there might not be so bad after all.
