His therapist had said that he should take up a relaxing hobby. And Abuela had taught him to knit a long time ago, and had encouraged him to get started again by sending him some of her needles and wool, so now he knits to relax. And now he’s looking up more complex patterns online and commenting on a knitting subreddit.
He doesn’t mean to make a friend; it just sort of happens accidentally. They talk a lot in the comments about different techniques and patterns, then move their conversation to a private chat. It starts out knitting based, then the occasional comment about other things, and after a while they exchange real names.

Eddie, a single-dad from Texas strikes up an online friendship with Maddie, a 911 operator living in LA. Around December, in discussing how hard the holidays are for them, they decide to swap houses/townhouses for two weeks around Christmas - and sparks fly when Eddie meets Maddie's little brother, and Maddie meets Eddie's best friend from work, Chimney.
