I received permission from Silverynight to post my fic based on her fic so I hope this honors their fic even a little bit!
Original excerpt from The Demon:
"Please, take her!" The demon with red hair begs him; he's carrying a young girl in his arms, she looks hurt and she's bleeding and yet the demon doesn't look tempted by the blood. "You have a weapon with you... I'll let you kill me because I don't know what I am anymore... I don't want to hurt anyone."
Giyuu is confused, of course[.]
But the demon looks distressed, his eyes are in pain and he doesn't look like he's killed anyone in his life.

He awoke with a gasp.
This gasp hurt. The pain soon receded, a vicious hunger taking its place. He opened his eyes and saw what should’ve been considered a veritable feast before him. But all he felt was agony. He tried to remember what happened.
He went down to the village yesterday to sell charcoal. He helped his neighbors. And he made it home.
