“Oh that is no surprise,” Désire said, resting his cane against the table, “I came here for personal reasons.” He smiled, and Gatto found the duplicity of it nauseating. “Personal….reasons?” The scientist repeated warily.
A split second. That was how fast he moved. One moment there was considerable distance between them, the next, Désire was right up in his face, not touching him but looking down into his eyes with an intensity so terrifying it rooted Gatto to his spot.

Summary
A prison is a prison, no matter how well it is dressed.
After receiving hope from a position opening in the Melodis estate, Gatto stumbles right into the hands of D.M. himself. His questions remain unanswered, and at every turn he must fight to figure out more of the Melodis family. Between it all, his loyalties become hazier with each day he stays. Rosemary haunts his every action - each desire and goal, yet, can he truly trust what she once told him? To recreate "Eternal Beauty" would solve every problem he has, yet, would it not also solve D.M.'s?
Between the strife of his re-introduced addiction, memory loss, and the constant snap of D.M.'s tone; "Gatto" must decide who he really is, and what it is he wants to do. Resolutions that were once so strong crumble and as the time moves past, his reason for coming grows all the more confusing.
In the end, a phyrric victory is one that cannot be celebrated, for it is nearly equal to defeat.

Summary
It wasn’t exactly uncommon for Norton to barge into Naib's room, demanding some violent form of intercourse that he was sure wouldn’t be called “intimacy” in any normal circumstances after he’d had a bad day. He supposed everyone had their ways of taking their anger out and, for the taller man, sex was apparently the most effective on his list of strategies.
The mercenary would be lying if he said he minded being at the receiving end of that particular coping mechanism.
