Rain doesn’t know cars, at all. He knows he should, groans both from the stabbing ache in his leg and the memory of Phayu chiding him for his ignorance about the machine he was supposed to be handling. But at the very least, he’s pretty sure the steering wouldn’t suddenly give out, especially since Phayu had checked the engine and guaranteed Rain was safe to drive home.
He can still hear the loud crunch of the van ramming into his back bumper, more terrifying than the thunder. Rain had tried to punch the gas and make a quick turn to lose the van, but when the wheel spun under his hands and the car kept moving straight as an arrow, Rain had panicked, hit the brakes instead. It might have been what allowed the van to pit maneuver him right into a deep ditch, glass flying and Rain’s head ricocheting off the door frame as the force of impact sent his limbs sprawling from around the seatbelt.
He thinks he must have passed out, though the only indication of it is the fact that Rain blinks his eyes open slowly after nothing but blackness and the hissing of rain envelopes him.
