It's after the dark carnival concert,where Nick had died.
The rest of the three devastated of their lost,especially Ellis who really like the guy,continued forward to swamp fever.eventually they get separated and Ellis tries to look for them only to end up in a safe house,which was a real house in the inside than what it looked like from the out!
Ellis survives there going back out to find food,anything to survive and goes back.he then meets one of his old fellow survivor... -

Summary
First part of the story is just Ellis with his mom at whispering oaks,they are having the time of their lives.Ellis sees another boy with his mom sitting on a bench and he talks to him.the other kid,nick,was annoyed but just to be nice didn't show that he was and Nick gets pulled away.
Soon enough things go terribly wrong people screaming and running Ellis lost his mom and runs off to hide.he bumps into the other kid and they survive their days in a dark carnival for now....
