Summary
Cloud Recesses are built on a place rich with spiritual power, which makes cultivation easier. Gusu Lan is an eco-conscious sect, though, so to replenish what they take, every Lan disciple, upon turning 16, must enter a sacred cave with a partner of his choosing, follow the ritual, achieve sexual release and direct the liberated energy to restore the environment.
When it's his turn, Lan Xichen's ritual goes without a hitch. Lan Wangji's doesn't.
