Wherever they touched, Arthur’s skin tingled pleasantly, as though it had been waiting for this all his life.
Was this what it had been like, before all his relationships had grown too complicated? Had he ever had something as soft as this? Loving Mary had never been easy, and God rest her soul, he hadn’t stuck around Eliza long enough to feel anything as easy as this.
Because it was easy, somehow, leaning against another man—this particular man—and let himself be soft, just this once. Every now and then.
