There was that weakness.
He was half expecting a barked laugh but nothing came.
"Jack."
"What?"
"Well, we're gonna be equals aren't we, boy-scout? On the same footing and all that? If we're gonna be partners, we might as well get on a first-name basis. What do you think?" That sick feeling returned and Leon had to swallow it down or else he'd feel physically ill. Too personal, too close.
"I think you're fucking around with me."
Leon couldn't hear himself well enough to know if his spilt words came out serious or as brushing aside as it always was to hide how he felt, but Krauser, Jack laughed anyway, something genuine and for the first time, Leon decided he liked that a lot.
"Either way, hurry up kid. You can retire for the night after. We're not finished yet"
And with that, his Major left him alone in the locker room and Leon just stood there dumbfounded by his own emotions and spiralling mind.

Leon Kennedy lifted his ever so longingly ‘gifted’ RPDed brand mug up to his lips with both of his hands clasped around the whole of it as carefully as one can be as if he was scared he’d break it otherwise, staring into the dark swirled colours of the little bit of morning coffee and creamer he had left from the few hours before from when he got up even earlier than now, nails tapping against the smooth ceramic material to both warm his hands and keep them idle rather just using the actual handle. It gave his hands something to worry against anyway. The birds watched the dirty blond carefully through the windows with mock interest, hopping along the branches of the trees and tilting their heads as they stared into the house past the rookie cop and behind, always behind and never singing.
They haven’t really sung since he moved here, really.

The payout isn’t even worth it.” He breathed out to himself, parting a hand through curtain bangs that fell back into his face after his hand had left and his other supported his weight on the desk he was now properly facing. The little prank didn’t even seem worthwhile to carry out anymore as Leon just stood there for a moment and went over the many thoughts that busied themselves in his swirling head. Do the prank and get his other officers' respect but risk punishment from Wesker himself or Don’t do the prank and get picked on for being a pushover. Neither really seemed like a good outcome in the end and the light-haired man didn’t even know if he felt like getting a first-hand up close and personal demonstration of that intimidating personality that STARS were always eager to share with him so often.
TLDR; Leon Goes to prank Captain Wesker and it backfires. Kind of?

It sounded far too good to be true but it was what he wanted so desperately. Maybe it was a little selfish of him but things never got better and things never changed. All it took was another asshole who thinks they can play god in a world of innocents. More places for the government to wave their fingers at and blow up. Never-ending work and more partners and squads who die under his watch.
