There was only one problem. Thorin has been in a Hell of his own devising this whole time, one created by self-hatred for his crimes committed under the influence of dragon sickness, and the Valar are begging for Bilbo to talk some sense into him and thus free him.

Nori groans, ties the end of his makeshift halter to the stile so that his one chosen sheep can’t wander off, and gives the nearest member of the flock a hard shove. “Bugger off, I said. Go and... look, over there, there’s delicious grass, go and eat that and leave me alone.”
"Going well, is it?" a voice calls from the other side of the hedge; Nori startles, hits the sheep rather harder than he meant to, knocks it into another sheep, and turns around amid a sea of offended bleating to see Dwalin just on the other side of the stile, leaning on one of his long axes and smirking.

A Hobbit Holiday Exchange fic for Gideondorf :D
It goes like that: Dwarves have sex only with their One of the opposite sex and only as means of creating offspring. Otherwise they don't even think it's possible/necessary/pleasurable to have it at all. That's why they're all so angry and stubborn and find pleasure in gold and fighting and being badasses - all that tension has to go somewhere.
Which makes everything strange when Thorin decides to take Bilbo as his Shield Carrier to honour a sacred travelling custom of the Durin's line. The hobbit is at first happy, but then it all turns to doubt when the prince doesn't seem to want to touch him intimately. At all. Was it something he did? Is Thorin disgusted with him?
Well, he is a healthy male in his prime and so he ventures to ask some questions and change some age-old habits.
