When a man with the face of statue wearing the suit of an office worker arrives at Mo Ran’s tattoo shop smelling like booze, Mo Ran expects to do what he always does with drunks who think they can use alcohol to make bad decisions: turn him away at the door… or at least, turn him away once Mo Ran's gotten a chance to see how he flusters in the face of flirtation.
Except, Chu Wanning is more than what Mo Ran first expected. When he realizes that this office worker hides a willow-branch tattoo under his cocktail-stained button up, he’s intrigued enough to offer his services.

Pathologically solitary academic Chu Wanning left behind a life of research to enlist with the Pan-Pacific Defense Corps Jaeger team when giant monsters began to emerge from the Pacific ocean, eager to leave his personal entanglements behind him and join humanity's collective battle against the threat of extinction.
His goal is to build an artificial intelligence that will allow a pilot to operate a Jaeger mech solo - eliminating the need for pilot compatibility and the mortifying ordeal of being totally known by another person, a "neurological handshake" known colloquially as the drift.
He didn't expect his former students to follow him all the way to front line of the war against the kaiju.
Featuring lots of side character interaction, pining, yearning, questions on the nature of personhood, friendship between jerks, people coping badly with loss, snarky AI, and giant robots. Illustrations by Saika & Daru

Hua Gui was deeply loved by the formely leader of the Tianyi Pavilion, Hua Bi'nan was the irrefutable proof of that love. But his existence was also proof that no one loved without expecting anything in return.
Loving and being loved was terrifying, equivalent to allowing a poisonous snake wrap itself around your neck, hoping it won't strangle you until you suffocate. The power you gave that person was terrifying, so there was nothing wrong with offsetting that balance with a guarantee: The Flower of Everlasting Hatred.
Love was pain. Love was misery and suffering, but at the same time it was the sweet reward of adoration, all Hua Bi'nan wanted was an assurance that the love he would receive from Chu Wanning would not be changeable as the phases of the moon.
Therefore...
What if in a second life Shi Mei had managed to implant the Flower of Everlasting Hatred in Chu Wanning?
