Summary
A deeply tired, ugly little part of Eddie wanted to know what would happen if he simply sat down on the apparatus floor and bled through his shirt. Would they notice then? Or would he have to actually pass out first?
He hated that thought as soon as he had it.
It wasn’t fair. They loved Buck because Buck was lovable, because he was family, because he had just been kidnapped and tortured and dragged through hell. Eddie loved him too. Maybe more than was good for him. Certainly more than was wise.
And if Eddie had made himself harder to care for, then that wasn’t on them.

Eddie looks up from his crossword. He’s never seen Buck look so… small, except from when he was in that hospital bed, refusing to look at Eddie. He tries to push the image out of his head.
“I did.” Eddie says simply, because of course he did. He’ll always find Buck, just like Buck always finds him.

Eddie’s breath hitches into a sob, chest heaving with the force of shallow breaths as his arm twitches on the ground—he’s lucky to be alive. Lucky. But he doesn’t feel lucky. It was supposed to be one night. One drink. Instead, he wakes up with a metallic taste in his mouth, a stab of pain so visceral it rips right through his limbs, and no one to blame but himself.
