    It wasn’t supposed to turn into anything. That was the thought that kept circling Annie’s mind in the weeks that followed. But somehow, “just catching up” turned into long weekend calls, train rides between Philly and New York, and playlists shared at 2 a.m.
    By spring, they’d stopped pretending it was casual.
    The train between Penn Station and 30th Street became their middle ground. Sometimes she’d take the Friday night line up, sometimes he’d catch the early morning one down. Their weekends were a blur of city noise and quiet moments. All museum tours and pizza boxes, study breaks that turned into sunrises.
    When summer came, she sublet an apartment in Brooklyn for an internship, and suddenly, their separate worlds folded together. They spent lazy mornings at his kitchen table, drinking iced coffee out of mismatched mugs, the radio humming faintly in the background.
    They still fought sometimes. Mostly over missed calls, or forgotten plans, or how hard it was to balance everything. But it was real. They were real.
