Nick’s eyes, dazed like peering through a veil of melted honey, widened.
“I–” Nick breathed, gripping the cup in his hand with so much force he thought the plastic might crack. “Yes.”
“Yeah?” Charlie asked, batting thick, dark lashes up at Nick’s flustered expression. “You don’t have to say yes, you know.”
“I can’t imagine ever saying no to you."

Summary
Something’s up with Nick.
Over the last few years I’ve become pretty good at reading him, peeking behind the Rugby King Nick Nelson mask he likes to put up. He does it around me sometimes too but not as often as he used to. But today, he’s got that wall up pretty high. He just keeps looking at me like he’s not sure I’m real anymore. A part of me wonders if I died and now I’m some unknowing ghost like Bruce Willis in the Sixth Sense, doomed to walk the Earth until someone tells me I’m dead.
Which I’m sure Nick wouldn’t tell me, he’d feel terrible about it because that’s just how Nick is. He feels terrible if anyone, me most of all, ever looks remotely sad about anything. He sees it as a weakness, I’m sure, but Nick’s endless empathy towards people is really a good thing. As long as those people don’t take advantage of him, at least.
So yeah, Nick’s acting strange today and I’m not sure why.

Once the room clears, Nick takes a deep breath. “So, half-term. How have your exams been going?”
“Can I suck you off?”
Charlie is patient as Nick does a double-take at his request, staggering back and knocking over a bottle of tequila. He sips his vodka lemonade and waits.
“What, er—now?!” Nick splutters.
“Why not?” He’s emboldened now. This loop is quickly becoming hell on earth, but maybe it doesn’t have to be, not all the time. There are no consequences for him in the loop. Anything he does is forgotten the next day. Nick could scream at him, punch him in the nose, do whatever he wants—tomorrow, he’ll still be here, serving him a vodka lemonade with a shy smile. What has he got to lose?
