Summary
Somehow, someway, Chloe beats him to his penthouse.
She’s waiting for him when he steps off the elevator. Pacing by the piano, one hand tapping on the glossy lid.
She surges toward him the the second he crosses the threshold, heels snapping on black stone.
“What the hell is wrong with you?”
He pauses briefly. She follows him when he sidesteps her and stalks to the bar.
He sheds his jacket. Undoes his cufflinks, and pushes his sleeves past his wrists. Pours himself a drink.
He takes a sip and lets it melt on his tongue before he speaks, voice barely more than a whisper.
“I could ask you the same thing, Detective.”

“This is Lux,” Pink Top, obviously speaking as a Lux regular, says authoritatively. “Everyone always knows where Lucifer Morningstar is.”
“But, were you saying he’s not picking a date tonight?” The blonde is persistent. “Or that he already has?”
“Bad luck, sorry,” Red Dress says with such surety, Chloe’s almost worried she’s going to come out of the bathroom to find Lucifer missing—already upstairs with a guest. Therefore, it takes her completely by surprise when the woman continues by saying, “the Detective is here.”
Chloe freezes at Lucifer’s moniker for her on this stranger’s lips.
